Pre-Kindergarten: Cricket Camp
|
Why Choose the TCDN Cricket Camp this Summer?
The Cricket Camp teachers help facilitate your rising Kindergartner' transition and therefore help prepare children for success in school – all while giving children a caring, creative, fun-filled summer experience.
About the Program
TCDN Crickets are pre-kindergarten age children who will be transitioning to kindergarten in the next school year. During the school year, Crickets are an afternoon group of 4-5 year old peers who come together for activities that begin to prepare children to move into a new environment. Cricket Camp is a fun summer program where children enjoy readiness activities designed to facilitate transition to kindergarten.
Curriculum
Cricket Camp curriculum activities incorporate factors that are inherent in school success. These factors are woven into thematic topic exploration and include:
- Physical and healthy well-being. Campers will engage in gross motor skill activities, play group games, visit the Kid’s Place playground, take hikes, and enjoy visitors who share soccer, baseball or other physical skills. Activities will ensure responsibility and health practices, as children practice organization of their belongings, self-help skills, and good hygiene.
- Reading and language development. Through listening, speaking, reading and writing, campers will explore language skills. Campers will tell stories, play rhyming games, practice writing in journals, make books, focus on comprehension, vocabulary and memory skills.
- Social and emotional maturity. Activities will emphasize group & social skills and feeling good about oneself, as campers build friendships, practice positive ways to communicate, and build imagination & problem-solving skills through cooperative play.
- Concept development. Through activities that arise from play and planned activities, children will learn key concepts in math, science, cultural diversity and in a general understanding of their world. Concepts will be examined through counting, sorting, comparing, measuring, estimating, sharing information and through the creative arts.
Cricket Camp also includes weekly field trips, either exploring in the community or traveling to local venues. Cricket Camp includes frequent water play and many, many activities that will enhance your child’s summer in a creative, meaningful way!
Food Program
TCDN offers AM and PM snacks and lunch to all Cricket Campers. Snacks and lunch are prepared by a staff person, balancing the nutritional needs of children throughout their day. Hot lunches can be prepared. Proteins, carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables are all included in a daily plan. Families are welcome to supplement our menu with foods from home.
Family Involvement
Cricket Camp teachers involve families in the transition process and keep families informed of activities, goals, expectations, and their child’s participation. Families are encouraged to share their talents and skills and contribute to a cooperative spirit in the program.
"Summer Cricket Camp was an amazing experience for my son. Jen and Kim did a fabulous job organizing themed weeks and relevant activities and field trips. I often found myself jealous that I didn't get to stay at TCDN to join in the fun!" - A Cricket Camp parent
